Workin' it at Brooklynite
When I stopped by Brooklynite on Sunday for a visit with Berlin-based duo Various & Gould, I could tell a lot of work had already gone into the Make It Fit show, which opens this Saturday. The two of them were furiously at work crafting bold and colorful new collages using printed material brought from Germany and objects sourced in Brooklyn. From what I’ve seen, I would say they’ve definitely stepped up their game since last showing at Brooklynite with Dain in Fall 2008.
Brooklyn-resident Specter - who last year garnered respect and admiration from peers, fans and strangers alike with his hand-painted, wheatpasted portraits of New York’s largely invisible working class - has also upped the ante. Taking his portraiture as a point of departure, he has built an impressive series of sculptural installations that are a natural progression from his recent street work.

Artists & Artlovers Do Their Part to Support Haiti
Charity Auction for Haiti
Brooklynite Gallery is in the process of organizing a charity auction to benefit the Chances 4 Children orphanage in Haiti. The details of the auction are yet to be hammered out, but so far Miss Bugs, Eelus, C215 and Beejoir have donated pieces. Rae McGrath writes, "We at the BROOKLYNITE have an indirect link to this organization through very good friends of ours who were in the process of adopting two children when the earthquake hit. The orphanage is running out of resources. We want to get funds and supplies directly to them."
100% of the PROCEEDS WILL GO TO THE ORPHANAGE. CHECKS / CHARGES WILL BE MADE DIRECTLY TO THE CHARITY. For more information, please contact info@brooklynitegallery.com. Alternately, consider making a direct donation to the orphanage.
 Miss Bugs Eelus C215
Update: For those of you in New York, Union Pool (484 Union Ave @ Meeker in Williamsburg) will be hosting a benefit for the orphanage starting at 7pm tonight!

Jumping Into The Abyss With Peru Ana Ana Peru
This past Saturday marked the opening of the artistic duo Peru Ana Ana Peru’s first solo exhibition “...And Then We Jumped into the Abyss of Numbers: Memories in Absurdity From the Bowels of Peru Ana Ana Peru” at the Brooklynite Gallery. Many people may be familiar with their work on the streets, which mainly consists of boards & wheat paste, but may not have known what else these two are really capable of...until now. The show consists of paintings, sculpture, video, & mixed media installations, as well as a good dose of humor. The crowed was packed from start to finish, so even if you were at the opening, I suggest a trip back to Brooklynite to give their work the attention that it deserves.

Brooklynite welcomes Peru Ana Ana Peru
If I remember correctly, the mysterious PERU ANA ANA PERU popped up on my radar at some point in 2007. I first saw those words scrawled across a wall in Brooklyn, followed by the perplexing statement FILM DOES NOT EQUAL CINEMA. Intrigued, I took to the Web to find out more, only to come away more confused then ever. Soon thereafter I started noticing their square black & white stickers everywhere.

Not shy to expand their efforts into ever more mediums, Peru Ana Ana Peru have delivered films, stickers, bolt-up boards, and wheatpastes - all the more reason to be excited about what this talented duo has cooked up for their first NYC solo show! ... And Then We Jumped into the Abyss of Numbers Memories in Absurdity from the Bowels of: Peru Ana Ana Peru opens at Brooklynite Gallery this Saturday, October 17th, from 7-10pm.
