This past Saturday marked the opening of the artistic duo Peru Ana Ana Peru’s first solo exhibition “...And Then We Jumped into the Abyss of Numbers: Memories in Absurdity From the Bowels of Peru Ana Ana Peru” at the Brooklynite Gallery. Many people may be familiar with their work on the streets, which mainly consists of boards & wheat paste, but may not have known what else these two are really capable of...until now. The show consists of paintings, sculpture, video, & mixed media installations, as well as a good dose of humor. The crowed was packed from start to finish, so even if you were at the opening, I suggest a trip back to Brooklynite to give their work the attention that it deserves.

If I remember correctly, the mysterious PERU ANA ANA PERU popped up on my radar at some point in 2007. I first saw those words scrawled across a wall in Brooklyn, followed by the perplexing statement FILM DOES NOT EQUAL CINEMA. Intrigued, I took to the Web to find out more, only to come away more confused then ever. Soon thereafter I started noticing their square black & white stickers everywhere.









Not shy to expand their efforts into ever more mediums, Peru Ana Ana Peru have delivered films, stickers, bolt-up boards, and wheatpastes - all the more reason to be excited about what this talented duo has cooked up for their first NYC solo show! ... And Then We Jumped into the Abyss of Numbers Memories in Absurdity from the Bowels of: Peru Ana Ana Peru opens at Brooklynite Gallery this Saturday, October 17th, from 7-10pm.
